Alan Patterson joined Ironart in January 2015 after a long career running Somerset Smithy workshop in Christchurch Street, Frome. He originally completed a seven year apprenticeship with Jim Holley and has many years of experience and some illustrious, high profile projects to his name. Alan’s speciality is fine leaf and scrollwork and his portfolio includes projects for the Duchy of Cornwall, Windsor Castle, the Peto Gardens and St Paul’s Cathedral.
Aside from blacksmithing, Alan has two real passions in life: he loves scuba diving and, as a BSAC dive leader he has dived all around the UK with his club Norad Sub Aqua. He also has a life-long passion for motorbikes which he has always ridden – although he tells us his wife Helen insisted that he purchase a car when their daughter was born! We are really delighted that Alan has joined the team here at Ironart where his experience and expertise will be a major asset to us all
